Templars hoping to build on progress
10:15am Friday 13th January 2012
Making further strides forward is the aim for Halstead Templars Rugby Club in the second half of their inaugural season.
The Templars have exceeded their own expectations in the opening part of their first-ever season and important wins in the lead-up to the Christmas break underlined the growing belief of the club’s players.
Player/coach Barry Poulter said it had been a start that augered well for the future and Templars are positive that they can enjoy further success in the early part of 2012.
The club has taken its first competitive steps this season in the BL Essex Merit Table division eight and while results may not have reflected that optimism in the first few games, it has been clear that Halstead are moving in the right direction as the season has progressed.
Poulter said: “I think it has been better than we expected and our head coach, Neil Prentice, and myself are delighted with how it has gone.
“From where we were at the start to where we have progressed to, picking up some good players and with a couple of league wins under our belts, I think we are holding our own.
“There was a little bit of worry when we started.
“We had players with some experience, but it was all unknown for us as a team just starting out.
“It started a little shakily, but we have looked stronger as we have progressed.”
