Templars hoping to discover stars of tomorrow
7:00am Friday 27th January 2012
Halstead Templars are looking to safeguard their future by putting the spotlight on youth development.
The newly-formed rugby club are enjoying their first season in division eight of the BL Essex Merit Table.
And with rapid progress having been made both on and off the pitch, the side now want to develop young talent to become their stars of tomorrow.
“We want to get a youth section up and running,” said player/coach Barry Poulter, who wants to make one a reality by working alongside head coach Neil Prentice and coach and school development officer Andy Smith.
“It’s very important in terms of the future success of the club.
“The current side are doing very well and we’re picking up new players every single week.
“But we’re realistic enough to know that the lifespan of our current team may only be five years.
“That’s why we need to put the emphasis on finding new, young players and introducing them to rugby."
